Is Holistic Oral Care a Forgotten Part of Your Natural Health Treatment Plan?

Many people, when addressing natural health issues, forget about their oral care. They assume that standard dental procedures are all you need and your natural care plan doesn’t have to include that.

That is a big mistake! Common dental procedures can have devastating health impacts leading to issues like dementia, heart disease, and yes, even cancer or heart disease.

Natural health dietary changes and nature-based remedies can help markedly reduce your health risks. What most people don’t know is that standard dental procedures can introduce as much harm as they resolve.

What they fail to understand is that an untreated issue with a previously placed root canal, improperly extracted tooth, and amalgam (mercury-based) fillings can lead to health issues that will not disappear with any dietary changes or through the introduction of any natural care supplement.

If you don’t connect your oral care with the rest of your health care and body, you will pay dearly with your hard-earned cash and your health. The rise in systemic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer is not coincidental to our nation’s oral health.

Preventing Cavities Naturally

Healthy teeth are maintained by a flow of beneficial dental fluids. Cavities arise when this flow is reversed. If you create bad oral hygiene, harmful bacteria feed on sugar to create acids.

These acids erode the enamel that protects teeth and creates an inflammatory response in the dentin. This starts the cavity process.

So, it is important to maintain good dental fluids to minimize the harmful bacteria in your mouth.

However, did you also know that you can learn how to heal a cavity naturally by using natural remedies in place of chemicals found in over the counter oral care products or fluoride that can create greater problems than they resolve?

Fluoride – Not As Good As Cracked Up to Be

The Fluoride Action Network says:

The main chemicals used to fluoridate drinking water are known as ‘silicofluorides’ (i.e., hydrofluorosilicic acid and sodium fluorosilicate). Silicofluorides are not pharmaceutical grade fluoride products; they are unprocessed industrial by-products of the phosphate fertilizer industry.

Since these silicofluorides undergo no purification procedures, they can
contain elevated levels of arsenic — more so than any other water treatment chemical.

In addition, recent research suggests that the addition of silicofluorides to water is a risk factor for elevated lead exposure, particularly among residents who live in homes with old pipes.

Fluoride Action Network

It is inconclusive whether or not the risks outweigh the benefits of drinking fluoride water on tap.

An epidemiological study done in Vojvodina Serbia, which included 145 children under the age of 6, determined that fluoride prevents cavities and tooth decay in deciduous (baby) teeth, but the “presence of fluoride in the drinking water doesn’t affect the health of deciduous teeth.”

Whether we give our children unpurified tap water to drink or pay the dentist to give us fluoride treatments may not matter. We are still getting poisons from industrial by-products.

A More Natural Approach to Healthier Teeth

Try Oil Pulling

It may seem odd to think about something as simple as swishing oil in the mouth as being beneficial to your oral and overall health. I thought as well myself when I first heard about it.

However, your mouth is the entry point to your entire digestive tract. Your mouth also contains more bacteria than in any other place in your body. Untreated oral care issues or practices that create unhealthy bacterial flow in the mouth gets transferred to the rest of your body.

Oil pulling helps eliminate those negative bacteria. You need the right oil (organic coconut oil is recommended because of its natural anti-bacterial capacities). It needs to be done for the right amount of time (about 20 minutes) and repeated often (daily even).

You can learn about oil pulling at the Holistic Oral Care Summit or go to amazon and research some books on it there. I’d recommend Oil Pulling Therapy by Dr. Bruce Fife, because of its pragmatic and science-based approach. He was skeptical when he first heard about as I was.

Mineralizing Tooth Powder

You can make your own with bentonite clay and essential oils or choose one of the Frau Fowler brands off amazon. I use one of these daily. I first add 1 tablespoon of activated charcoal powder to each Frau Fowler container from coconut shells to increase its whitening power and anti-bacterial qualities.

Just add the activated charcoal. Shake the container well to blend it with the powder and use on a regular or electric toothbrush. It’s black but rinses off and works great to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Dump the Sugar

Sugar is the worst food you can consume for cavities. It feeds oral bacteria and prevents a healthy flow of dental fluids. It is very acidic and can demineralize teeth which makes them decay.

This means no candy, soda, or baked sweet goods. It also means to limit honey, maple syrup, and juices. Juices, even if completely organic. are loaded with sugar as the video below shows:

Limit Phytic Acid

Phytic Acid is in the bran portion of grains and beans (legumes). It blocks the phosphorus availability in humans and binds minerals for oral health such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc.

When bound, these minerals become unavailable for proper utilization. Phytic acid has anti-nutritional effects such as digestive disorders, lack of appetite, and nutrient deficiency.

So, it is important to limit your grain consumption and stay away from soy products. It is also best to eat foods that are organic and GMO-free.
